Since you're here, and obviously I'm here, I think we should talk about what this thing is. Cool? Cool. If you want to put a title on it, you can say I'm a crochet enthusiast. I've learned the most basic of stitches at a young age from my mom. A few years later put it down because my classmates in the 6th grade called me a grandma. I laugh about it now but it was hurtful to a child who cared about what her peers thought.
When I picked up crochet again at the beginning of this year it was because of my mom (surprise, surprise) again. I was at her house on the weekend and I picked up her WIP and started to work on it. She was amazed that I followed the pattern. Hell, I was amazed too. I love the sense of calm that washed over me but couldn't decide if it had some type of tranquil inducing quality or if I was just having a nostalgic moment.
Later that day I found myself at Joann Fabrics getting a Susan Bates hook and 2 skeins of yarn. I wasn't sure what to make but I knew I didn't want to make a blanket or anything overwhelming. I found myself on YouTube searching for "small projects to crochet". Toys showed up on the feed and I made myself a stuffed turtle. (Don't talk about me in the comments lol)

It's definitely a little (read: A LOT) wonky but loved it and it got me very excited for crochet again. More importantly, it calmed my anxiety. I wanted to make all the little stuffed animals, which i later found out was called amigurumi. The next week I ordered four crochet sets that came with video tutorials.
Over the next several months I finished a couple of projects but honestly I found myself becoming a collector of all things associated with crochet. I have so much yarn, hooks and patterns that it will take me years to even tackle it all. It's my hyper fixation rearing it's head, but I don't mind because I can see myself never getting bored with anything related to the fiber arts.
So what should you expect from this blog? Since I'm still a beginner, I'm going to take you on a journey of my current WIPs, new stitches I've learned, finished makes, yarn and hook reviews, new patterns I bought and other crafts besides crochet that I'm trying for the first time. So if you're interested in any of that from a novice perspective, look for my weekly blog post and sign up for the monthly newsletter to stay in the know. I'm also on instagram (@thenovicegranny). Follow me there for sneak peeks about upcoming posts or just tidbits of my crochet life.
Talk to you next week,
